Natera Settlement: Who Qualifies and How to File a Claim
Natera's $9.5M billing settlement: Panorama and Horizon patients billed over $249 or $349, how payments work, and the May 3, 2027 claim deadline.
A $9.5 million fund pays Panorama and Horizon patients whom Natera billed above set amounts, and a separate Natera prenatal testing settlement appears closed.
You are in the Natera settlement class if Natera billed you more than $249 or $349, depending on the test, for Panorama prenatal testing or Horizon carrier screening between July 10, 2019 and September 2, 2026.
How much you can receive depends on the letter at the start of the identification number on your notice.
Who Is Eligible for the Natera Billing Settlement
The Natera billing settlement covers every person in the United States who had Panorama or Horizon testing performed by Natera and was billed above a set amount between July 10, 2019 and September 2, 2026. The threshold depends on which test you had.
| Test performed by Natera | You are in the class if you were billed more than |
|---|---|
| Panorama noninvasive prenatal testing without microdeletions | $249 |
| Panorama noninvasive prenatal testing with microdeletions | $349 |
| Horizon genetic carrier screening | $349 |
The court preliminarily certified this class on September 2, 2026, the last day of the billing window.
If you paid out of pocket for a Panorama or Vasistera test, read the section on the other Natera settlement. Otherwise, browse other open class action lawsuits.
This page describes the settlement terms and cannot decide whether you qualify. The settlement administrator decides eligibility and payment amounts.
What the Natera Class Action Claimed
The Natera class action claimed that patients were not clearly informed about potential out-of-pocket costs for Natera's genetic screening tests. The federal case is Calcaterra v. Natera, Inc., Civil Case No. 4:23-cv-06342-YGR, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California before Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers.
A related state case, Copley v. Natera, Inc., No. 23-CIV-03095 in San Mateo County Superior Court, is joined in the same settlement.
Natera denies the allegations. Natera says it is broadly in-network with most U.S. health plans and that the overwhelming majority of patients owe less than $249 or $349, depending on test and plan. Natera says it settled solely to avoid the cost and disruption of prolonged litigation, and the court did not decide the case for either side.
Natera also agreed to add two billing disclosures. Invoices will carry the line "Please review the back of this bill for information about our billing policy and payment options." The requisition form will add a line about providing insurance information, plus a phone number or email address for Natera's price transparency program.
The $9.5 Million Fund and How Payments Work
Natera will pay $9,500,000 into a settlement fund, and class members with valid claims split what remains after costs and fees. Notice and administration costs, a service award for the plaintiff, and attorneys' fees and costs come out first. The rest is called the Net Settlement Fund.
Your payment depends on the identification (ID) number printed at the top of the email or postcard notice sent on or after October 2, 2026.
| ID starts with | What Natera's records show | Payment for a valid claim |
|---|---|---|
| A | Proof you paid out-of-pocket costs above the $249 or $349 threshold | A pro rata share of 94.7% of the Net Settlement Fund |
| B | No proof of such payment | Up to $50 (the "No Proof Maximum"), subject to the available fund |
If fewer people claim, each A-group share grows. No payment under either group can exceed what you paid out of pocket for the test.
If your notice shows a B number and you have questions about it, contact the settlement at info@geneticscreeningtestsettlement.com or 1 (833) 453-3593. For how proof rules work across other cases, see our guide to class action claims without proof of purchase.
Class counsel, Wolf Popper LLP and Berman Tabacco, may ask for fees of no more than 25% of the Settlement Fund plus expenses. Expenses so far are about $74,590, and counsel may request a service award of up to $7,500 for the plaintiff. The court decides the final amounts.
Settlement money may be taxable depending on what it replaces. Our guide on whether legal settlements are taxable covers how that works.

| Billing window closes and class preliminarily certified | September 2, 2026 |

What You Give Up by Staying In
Staying in the Natera class means you give up claims based on the alleged facts about marketing, pricing, billing and patient payment obligations for these tests.
You have four choices, and each one has a different result:
- File a claim. You can receive a payment and you release the claims described above.
- Opt out by December 28, 2026. You keep your right to sue Natera separately, and you receive no payment.
- Object by December 28, 2026. Objections are due on that date.
- Do nothing. You receive no payment and lose the right to sue later over the released claims.
For a plain explanation of releases and opt-outs, see how class action settlements work.
The Other Natera Settlement
A separate Natera settlement, In re Natera Prenatal Testing Litigation, No. 4:22-cv-00985-JST (N.D. Cal.), set aside $8.25 million for people who paid an out-of-pocket portion for Panorama or Vasistera tests. Its official site lists a claim deadline of July 24, 2026, and older sources said March 23, 2026. Either way, that settlement appears closed, so confirm its status at the Natera prenatal testing settlement website.
The Calcaterra release does not include the claims in that case. If you are a claimant in both, your combined payments cannot exceed what you paid out of pocket for the test.
