Common Pricing Questions
When do I pay — before or after the portal opens?
You pay when you sign up for a package, not when the DOJ portal opens. The Starter and Standard fees cover the work done before and during filing. Paying now ensures your case file is ready to submit the moment the portal opens. If the portal has not opened within a reasonable time after you purchase, contact us — we will work with you on timing.
Can I upgrade or switch tiers after I've started?
Yes. You can start with the free portal and upgrade to Starter or Standard at any time. If you purchased Starter and later want attorney representation, you can move to Standard — the difference in price is collected at that point. You can also start with the free portal to organize your case before committing to a paid package.
What does the contingency percentage mean, and how much is it?
For the Standard package, a contingency percentage of your recovery is collected only if and when you receive a monetary award from the commission. If you receive nothing, you owe nothing beyond the $1,500 engagement fee. The exact contingency rate is finalized in your written attorney engagement agreement before work begins — it is not deducted from the upfront fee. Ask at the time of engagement if you have questions about the rate.
Is there a refund if my claim doesn't succeed?
If our intake review determines your case is not viable — meaning it does not meet the fund's basic eligibility criteria — we will refund your package fee. A "non-viable" case is one where there is no credible federal nexus or the harm claimed falls clearly outside the fund's scope. If your case is viable but the commission ultimately awards less than expected, the upfront fee is not refunded — that is the nature of a representation engagement. The contingency portion under Standard is never owed if you receive no award.
Does using LawfareClaims.org guarantee I will receive compensation?
No. Compensation decisions are made solely by the DOJ Anti-Weaponization Fund commission — not by LawfareClaims.org. What our services do is help you build the strongest possible case file, meet the documentation requirements, file on time, and — under Standard — have a licensed attorney represent you through the process. Prior results do not guarantee similar outcomes. LawfareClaims.org is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice.
